COLEMAN TWP – On April 24, 2021 shortly before 8:30 p.m. members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Temiskaming District Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a call of a pleasure craft that was sinking in Bay Lake.

Further investigation revealed that two individuals were on a vessel in the middle of the lake when it started to fill with water and quickly became submerged.

The individuals ended up in the frigid water.

The parties were attended to by nearby civilians until officers from the OPP Marine Unit arrived and escorted them back to shore safely.  The individuals were transported by ambulance to hospital as a precautionary measure.

The statistics show that 98 per cent of drowning victims were NOT wearing some type of floatation device. The OPP reminds all operators and passengers to carry an approved lifesaving device in your vessel or pleasure craft for each person on board.
