Man arrested for assault after allegedly attempting to enter parked cars: Police

Police say when confronted by residents, an assaultive altercation was initiated by the accused

The Timmins Police Service has investigated an early morning disturbance that occurred at approximately 3:30 this morning near the intersection of Elm Street South and First Avenue.

The Timmins Police Service responded to an occurrence where a male subject had been observed attempting to gain entry into a number of parked cars. When confronted by residents who discovered the event in progress, an assaultive altercation was initiated by the male suspect. Responding Timmins Police officers located the suspect and took him into custody.

The subject provided a false name to the police. Upon arrest, a number of stolen items were located on the suspect’s person.

As a result, Ivan Jacasum, 20, of Timmins has been charged with:

  • Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Theft under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Theft of mail contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Obstruct peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at provincial court in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.
