Male arrested after allegedly assaulting three people, unprovoked

The Timmins Police Service has investigated a mid-morning disturbance that occurred yesterday (Aug. 17) resulting in injury to a number of persons.

The Timmins Police Service responded to the occurrence where a male party entered into an unprovoked verbal dispute with two other male persons outside of a Second Avenue office building.

The dispute escalated to the point where the suspect struck one of the men with a closed fist and then proceeded to assault the other man in the same manner. The assaultive man fled the scene on foot.

Shortly afterwards, the suspect entered into a separate unprovoked altercation with a third man on Pine Street South where the suspect struck the pedestrian with a closed fist.

A responding Timmins Police Service officer was able to identify, locate, and arrest the male suspect after a brief physical altercation a short distance from the original scene.

As a result, Alexandre Bellerive, 27, of Timmins has been charged with:

  • Three counts of assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Assault peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at provincial court in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.

All victims received medical attention for the respective injuries they sustained during these altercations.
