Police say a 16-year-old Timmins resident is one of two people arrested and charged after drugs valued at more than $20,000 were seized in a traffic stop.
South Porcupine OPP say they stopped a vehicle on Highway 101 in Tisdale Township, west of South Porcupine, on May 6 shortly after 5 p.m.
As they investigated, officers seized an amount of suspected fentanyl and suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $23,000.
Also seized was approximately $2,900 in Canadian currency, police said in a news release.
Police said that as a result, a 16-year-old resident of Timmins, whose name cannot be published under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin)
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
The youth was released and is scheduled to appear at a later date before the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins.
A 20-year-old from Toronto was also arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
The second accused was being held in custody pending a bail hearing, police said on Wednesday.
