Kirkland Lake OPP investigating homicide

Police believe the incident was targeted and there's no imminent threat to public safety

Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police is investigating a homicide after responding to a shooting Thursday night on Second Street East.

Shortly after 10 p.m. police were called to a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned that one person had suffered gunshot wounds and that the suspects had fled the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital where they died, according to a news release.

Investigators believe there is no imminent threat to public safety and the incident was targeted, the release said. There is an increased police presence in the Second Street East area.

The Kirkland Lake OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
