Kirkland Lake deaths deemed a double homicide

A death investigation in Kirkland Lake has now been deemed a double homicide, says police. 

On July 30 around 4:30 p.m., Kirkland Lake OPP to a medical call at a Woods Street residence. The victims were brought to the hospital by ambulance, where both were pronounced dead. 

They have now been identified as 37-year-old Amanda Lachapelle and 49-year-old Gabriel Marecki, both of Kirkland Lake. 

Police now say that the incident is a double homicide. 

"Investigators believe this was an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to public safety," said police in a news release.

An appeal for video surveillance of the area continues. 

Officers would like to see video surveillance that may show any part of Woods Street and the surrounding area from Saturday, July 29 at 7 a.m. to Sunday, July 30 at 7 p.m.
