Heavy police presence in Sixth Avenue area (updated)

A section of Sixth Avenue is closed for a police investigation.

Update, 2:50 p.m.: 

A male suspect was arrested around 11 a.m. today in connection with an incident that happened around 9 a.m. at a Sixth Avenue residence. Police have not provided details about the nature of the investigation.

Police say that traffic has returned to normal. The criminal investigations division investigation is ongoing. 

"This is deemed to be an isolated incident. There is no threat to public safety stemming from this incident," said police in a news release.

Residents are being warned to expect a heavy police presence in the Sixth Avenue area. 

Timmins Police says there is an ongoing incident between Cedar and Balsam. The road is closed between Pine and Birch. The emergency response team is containing the area for public safety reasons.

"A strong police presence is in this area at present as police maintain control of the scene," reads a news release.

"Vehicle traffic may experience delays or detours in the affected area for the next few hours. 

"Pedestrian traffic in the area is strictly prohibited for the time being."
