Hearst resident facing trafficking charge

Police say the 39-year-old had over $17,000 worth of suspected hydromorphone

HEARST - On Dec. 6, 2021, at approximately 1:40 p.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), and members of James Bay Detachments OPP, arrested a person on George Street in the Town of Hearst as a result of a drug trafficking investigation.

Further investigation yielded a substantial quantity of suspected Hydromorphone, with a street value worth over $17,000.

As a result of the investigation Joel Carrier, 39 years old from Hearst, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioid (Other than Heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Obstruct Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code

The accused person is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 19, 2022 in Hearst.
