Gun stolen in break-in, suspect flees scene in stolen vehicle: Police

A suspect fled in a stolen vehicle following a break-and-enter that saw a gun stolen, says Timmins Police. 

The break-in happened late Saturday, May 13 or early on Sunday, May 14 at a Bogey Drive residence. The  cost of damage to the property is not known yet.

Police say the suspect forced their way into the residence and stole a number of items, including a firearm, and fled by stealing a vehicle belonging to the property owner. 

Officers located the stolen vehicle being driven erratically on Algonquin Boulevard East on Saturday morning.

The vehicle was pulled over and the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was interviewed by police. The suspect was arrested and brought to the station for drug recognition expert (DRE) testing. The driver complied with the testing but refused to give a blood sample, said police. 

"The status of the vehicle as 'stolen' was determined by the officer along with the recovery of the other stolen property, as it was discovered within the vehicle, pursuant to the arrest," reads the news release.

A 28-year-old woman from Timmins is charged with: 

  • Break and enter 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Theft of vehicle 
  • Impaired operation of motor vehicle
  • Careless use of a firearm 
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of restricted/prohibited firearm
  • Possession of firearm – contrary to court order
  • Fail to comply with blood demand
  • Drive while under suspension 

The accused is in police custody waiting for a bail hearing today. 

None of the charges have been tested in court.
