The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with theft related offences stemming from an incident that occurred on Saturday, April 17 at a Brunette Road grocery store in Timmins.
A Timmins Police Service officer responded to a call for service where [it is alleged that] a male party had fled the store without paying for a number of items.
The responding officer confronted the male suspect a short distance from the original scene and found him to be in possession of the stolen items and attempted to place him under arrest.
Despite persistent attempts to avoid arrest and flee from the police, the suspect was eventually taken into police custody.
The suspect then proceeded to provide a false name to the police.
As a result of the incident, Harold Nakogee, 32 of Timmins, has been charged with:
• Theft under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Resist peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Personation with intent to mislead contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
• Fail to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
Nakogee remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
