Every driver plays a role in making roadways safer, according to Timmins Police.

The local police service is taking part in Operation Impact for the Thanksgiving long weekend.

The campaign runs from Oct. 8-11. For it, Timmins Police are focusing on impaired driving — that includes alcohol, drugs or fatigue — aggressive driving, distracted driving and driving without a seatbelt.

"In general, motor vehicle collisions are preventable events so long as drivers deploy the required care and attention that is demanded in order to reach your destination safely. Safe drivers are those who deploy their attentiveness constantly and routinely as a matter of habit and responsibility," said Sgt. Thomas Chypyha in a news release.
