Elk Lake golf cart driver faces impaired charges

ELK LAKE - On July 3, 2020 shortly after 8:30 p.m., members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting pro-active patrols in the Town of Elk Lake.

Officers stopped a golf cart on Lake Street and further investigation revealed that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages.

As a result, Wayne Smith, a 57-year-old resident of James Township, has been arrested and charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 25, 2020 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
