Drugs seized on Polar Bear Express, man facing trafficking charges

Police allege the accused had cocaine, crystal meth, speed and heroin

A large amount of drugs have been seized from a popular train that connects the James Bay coast with Highway 11. 

On June 20, James Bay OPP responded to a tip about a man in possession of "a large amount of controlled substances" travelling on Ontario Northland's Polar Bear Express train. 

Officers from the Moosonee detachment located the suspect, who was arrested.

A 26-year-old man from Montreal is charged with:

  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
  • Possession of crystal methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.
  • Possession of methamphetamine (speed) for the purpose of trafficking.
  • Possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking.
  • Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Failing to comply with probation

The accused is slated to appear in bail court via video today (June 21). 

The charges have not been tested in court.
