Driver charged with impaired in Moonbeam collision

Two people were treated for non-life threatening injures, say police

KAPUSKASING - On August 1, 2020, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Cochrane District Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a motor vehicle collision on private property in the Township of Moonbeam, Ontario. 

Police investigation revealed that, a driver with a passenger attempted to jump over a ditch which resulted in both persons being transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

During the investigation, police determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol.

Clifford Reid, 44-years-old, of Fauquier, Ontario, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) Criminal Code (CC),
  • Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm contrary to section 320.13(2) CC, and
  • Operation While Impaired Causing Bodily Harm contrary to section 320.14(2) CC.

The accused person is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing, on September 14, 2020, to answer to the charges. 

The driver was served with a 90 day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Police are asking the public to call the authorities if they see someone driving after having consumed intoxicating substances.
