Cochrane man charged with vehicle theft

The Timmins Police Service has charged a Cochrane man with vehicle theft related offences stemming from an incident that occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at a Spruce Street South apartment building in Timmins.

A Timmins Police Service officer responded to the call for service yesterday regarding a person who had attended at the apartment of an acquaintance, and upon leaving, stole the keys to a vehicle that did not belong to him.

[It is alleged that] the suspect fled with the vehicle at some point in the late afternoon.

Based on the investigation, a Timmins Police officer located the vehicle at a Schumacher address later that same day and arrested the male suspect shortly afterwards.

The keys were located on the suspect’s person upon being arrested.

As a result of the incident, Tiza Mutswairo, 44 of Cochrane, has been charged with:
    •    theft of motor vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of fail to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Mutswairo remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.

The vehicle has been returned to the rightful owner.
