Canine unit helps track down suspect: OPP

Police say they tried to stop a vehicle on Highway 11 and the driver fled the scene

MATHESON - The OPP's emergency response team (ERT) and canine unit helped track down a suspect over the weekend.

Around 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, South Porcupine OPP tried to stop a vehicle on Highway 11 in Matheson. The driver fled the scene and officers later located him with the help of ERT members and the canine unit.

A 23-year-old man from Dundalk is charged with: 

  • Dangerous operation
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Forcible confinement
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • 4 counts of fail to comply with release order
  • 2 counts of drive while under suspension

TimminsToday has reached out to OPP for more information on some of the charges. 

OPP says the accused is in custody waiting for a bail hearing.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
