Bystanders detain suspect who assaulted teen on bike: Police

The accused is facing additional charges in connection with an alleged LCBO theft in August

A teen was assaulted when a suspect tried to steal his bike, allege police. 

Yesterday evening (Sept. 7), Timmins Police says a 19-year-old man on a bicycle in the parking lot of a Mountjoy Street South hotel was forced to the ground and assaulted.

"A number of concerned citizens interceded and held the suspect in place until the police arrived," reads Timmins Police news release. 

A 30-year-old man from Timmins was arrested and charged with robbery, assault and failing to comply with a release order. 

He's also facing charges in connection with a shoplifting incident at the Timmins LCBO on Aug. 25. 

Those charges are theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply with a release order.

The accused is in police custody waiting for a bail hearing today.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
