Arrest made in connection with two robberies

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from two robberies that occurred in quick succession: one having occurred yesterday and a second one occurring early this morning.

The Timmins Police Service was actively investigating a robbery at an Algonquin Boulevard gas station that occurred on Thursday, Oct. 27 when a second robbery, committed by the same suspect, was reported at a Pine Street South variety store early this morning (Oct 28).

Timmins Police Service officers responding to the second robbery were able to identify, locate and arrest the suspect as the result of a lengthy and complicated foot chase ending in a hotel parking garage.

Based on the outcome of the respective investigations, a 28-year-old Timmins man has been charged with:

  • two counts of robbery with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.

The Timmins Police wish to acknowledge their gratitude for members of the public who assisted in the apprehension by relaying relevant and current information regarding his direction of travel taken by the suspect as he was trying to evade capture while being pursued.
