Altercation leads to charges for 25-year-old accused of fleeing from police

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred near the intersection of Maple Street and Fifth Avenue early this morning (Dec 24).

The Timmins Police Service responded to a physical altercation in progress involving a man and a woman at the intersection. Upon police arrival, the man involved in the disturbance fled on foot and made his way to a Maple Street apartment.

In the course of their fresh pursuit of the suspect, the responding Timmins Police officers were able to locate and identify the suspect.

The man actively resisted the initial arrest undertaken by the Timmins Police officers but was eventually taken into custody.

As a result of the incident, Troy Etherington, 25, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of resist/obstruct peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The man remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at Provincial Court in Timmins, to answer to the charges laid against him.
