74-year-old Cobalt woman charged with impaired driving following collision

TEMISKAMING SHORES - On April 29, 2020 shortly before 8:30 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for a motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving two vehicles in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Police arrived a short time after and further investigation revealed that one motorist was eastbound and the other was westbound on Broadwood Avenue when the two collided.

OPP determined that the westbound driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages and was arrested.

Barbara MacLaren, a 74-year-old resident of the Town of Cobalt, is charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
    •    Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

The vehicle was towed from the scene, and impounded for seven days. The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 2, 2020, in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 and report it.
