20-year-old accused of brandishing knife during disturbance at Timmins hotel

The Timmins Police Service has charged a Fort Hope man with assault related Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the morning hours of Monday, Aug. 24 at a west-end hotel in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a matter where a 20-year-old male person [is alleged to have] physically accosted another 20-year-old male party based on a disagreement. The altercation took place in the hotel’s common area and escalated to the point where the suspect brandished a knife in the course of the disturbance. The altercation was eventually halted and the knife was taken from the accused without injury to himself or anyone else.

The accused was arrested by responding Timmins Police Service officers and transported to the Timmins Police station where he was processed and later released on the strength of a Criminal Code Undertaking.

Based on the outcome of the investigation into the incident, Thomas Boyce, 20 of Fort Hope, Ont., has been charged with:
    •    Assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was released from police custody but must attend at Provincial Court in Timmins on Oct. 20 to answer to the charges laid against him.
