Two teens were arrested after statues were spray painted in Schumacher on May 5, 2023

The Timmins Police Service has charged two local young persons with respective Criminal Code offences of mischief stemming from an incident that occurred during the morning hours Friday, May 5 where public property in Schumacher was damaged.

An alert citizen observed a number of young people spray painting the historically significant mining statues and other park property in the area.

Responding Timmins Police officers were able to identify and locate two of the young suspects and take them into custody.

The total estimate of the damage to this important cultural and historical site has yet to be determined.

As a result, a 14-year-old female young person, and a 15-year-old female young person, have been charged respectively with a single count of:

  • mischief to property contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Both accused persons were released from custody on the strength of Criminal Code Undertakings compelling their appearance on June 19 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against them.

The Timmins Police Service wishes to acknowledge the alertness and the strong sense of community responsibility displayed by the persons who notified the Timmins Police so quickly and with such ample detail which led to the apprehension of the suspects.
