13-year-old charged with assault

Police say the youth struck and threatened the 56-year-old victim

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local young person with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred at a Wende Street residence during the afternoon hours of Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Responding Timmins Police Service officers completed a thorough investigation into the incident where the suspect [is alleged to have] caused $500 damage to a garage window and a motorized scooter.

[It is alleged that] the suspect then proceeded to enter into a physical altercation with a 56-year-old man by striking him and uttering a threat of violence towards him.

The suspect was identified, located, and arrested at the scene by responding Timmins Police officers.

As a result of the incident, a 13-year-old male young person who cannot be named in keeping with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with:
    •    Assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Mischief under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Utter threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was held in police custody and is currently awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
