More people are buying tickets for Stars and Thunder at the gate this year.

If everyone who has a festival pass attended yesterday’s shows, along with individual day pass sales the crowd was around 5,500 people, according to Timmins Mayor Steve Black.

“On a super positive note, the gate purchases for days one and two in 2017‎ was $91,600 and in 2018 has increased to $171,000,” said Black. “We are excited to see walk up purchases almost double last year over the first two days and hope to see that trend continue.”

Attendance on the first day of the festival also surpassed the first day crowd in 2017.

This year, 3,251 people were at Hollinger Park for Sainte-Jean Baptiste Day. In 2017 there were 2,129 people at the kickoff.

The 50/50 prizes are also increasing.

Last night, one person took home more than $12,700.

Marianas Trench is headlining tonight’s concert, which will also feature Virginia to Vegas, Julian Taylor Band, Sonic Democracy, and Rough Outlook. The gates open at 3 p.m.

After Marianas Trench is off the stage, Team Finland will put on its fireworks show.
