The 2018 edition of Stars and Thunder is at Hollinger Park in Timmins from June 24 to July 1.

If you're heading to the concert, here are a few handy things to know:

Getting there and parking

There are parking lots nearby, but they will likely fill up quickly for the concerts. First Student is offering free shuttles all eight days, and Timmins Transit is free all week during the afternoons. Transit is also free Canada Day, with routes running on Sunday schedules. If you get a ride, there is a drop-off/pick-up zone on Brunette Road.

Stay hydrated

With hot, sunny temperatures in the forecast you’re going to want to stay hydrated. This year there will be hydration stations. You can bring in an empty clear, plastic bottle to fill up at the water stations.

What to bring

You are allowed to bring in sunscreen and bug dope as long as it isn’t in an aerosol can. In case of rain, you can have a rain poncho, but umbrellas won’t be allowed in. You also won’t be allowed to bring in outside food or drinks, selfie sticks, cameras or video cameras, or toys such as beach balls, soccer balls, or Frisbees. A full list of what you can and can’t bring is available here.

Eats

There are more food vendors at this year’s festival! In the general admission area, there are will be barbecue, chip stands, ice cream, Pita Pit, and more. For the VIP area, the menus include fries, pizza and barbecue. You can check out the full list of vendors here.

Tickets

If you want to snag a ticket to one of the concerts, tickets are still available. Prices vary depending on the day and area you want access to. You can buy tickets online here or on-site with cash, credit or debit.

For people with an eight-day pass, there was no advance pick up this year. They will provided at the festival gates.

When you can go in

June 24 and 29 the gates open at 1 p.m. From Monday to Friday the doors open at 3 p.m. Canada Day people can start accessing the park at noon.

Fireworks

Stars and Thunder is more than just music! Four fireworks displays are expected to be in the air. June 24 is Team Brazil, June 26 is Team Finland, June 28 is Team China, with Team Canada being featured July 1.

Chairs

You can bring in fold-up camping chairs. Essentially, the newer single-occupant camping chairs are permitted. Chairs with double seats, or old-school lawn chairs with the woven seats are not permitted. You can check if your chair meets the festival standards here. Once you’re inside, there will be a designated sitting and standing area, similar to later on in last year’s festival. If you plan to sit down for the shows, those chairs will be on one side. If you are going to sit, but plan to stand for the concerts — those chairs will be on the other side.
