Timmins has set a date for when it will start collecting bus fares again.

According to the City of Timmins, fares will be collected from riders starting Sunday, June 28. Timmins Transit is also moving to a Saturday level service instead of the enhanced Sunday level service it has been offering. The changes are for the conventional bus and Handy Transit.

"Transit will be accepting debit and credit cards only to purchase passes and tickets," said Ash Patel, transit operations supervisor, in a news release. "Cash will only be accepted on buses for single-trip payment with the exact fare required, to avoid the potential transfer of COVID-19. No change will be provided."

Starting Friday, June 16 the Timmins Transit Terminal on Spruce Street South will also be open to the public. There will be new safety precautions to follow such as self-screening, physical distancing and hand sanitizing.

Due to COVID-19, the city waived transit fares and reduced the level of bus service in March.

At that time, riders were asked to only use the back doors of the bus, however that is changing.

The city is now asking people to board through the front doors and to use the hand sanitizer provided.

Riders should stay at least two metres from eachother at all times. If you feel unwell or have any COVID-19 symptoms, you should not board the bus.

Services at city hall are also gradually reopening.

Last week the bulk of Service Timmins opened to the public again.

This week, people can now also stop by in person to pay provincial offences. Starting tomorrow (June 24), building and planning will be completing applications and payment.

The Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre and Tourism Timmins reopen June 29 with restricted services.

Starting July 2, bylaw parking enforcement will resume.
