With the challenges and personal restriction imposed by the Public Heath Protocols regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Timmins Police Service undertook a friendly food drive campaign to replenish the shelves of area food banks.

The two-week food drive culminated on Friday of last week with a total collection of over 4,140 non-perishable food items and a cash collection from local businesses and private benefactors of $13,211.

The food drive was initiated by Brenda Beaven, the Community Liaison Coordinator for the Timmins Police Service. Realizing that shortfalls were on the horizon for area food banks, Beaven initiated a good natured food drive competition among the platoons at the Timmins Police Service.

Before too long, TPS specialty units, Records Section, the TPS Auxiliary Unit, Dispatch 9-1-1 and the Senior Administration were all contending for 1st place in the good natured contest.

At the end, the Timmins Police Service Auxiliary Unit brought in the lion’s share with 1880 grocery items.

Cash donations were made by the following city businesses: CJ Equipment, DSI Services, The New Tin Shop, Delmonte Gravel, individual Timmins Police Services Board members, The Bucket Shop, Expertech Auto, Fountain Tire, Timmins Towing and Recovery, Cyclone Spray Foam Ltd, Guy’s Custom Cabinet, Custom Concrete, Genier Financial Services, the South Porcupine Animal Hospital and the law firm of Ellery, Ellery and Prabucki

Private citizens also made sizeable monetary donations. For modesty reasons, and absent their individual permission, their names are withheld.
