A Timmins golf club is gearing up to host a championship this fall.

The Hollinger Golf Club is hosting the 2021 Golf Canada NextGen Fall Series East Championship from Sept. 16 -19.

“We are extremely grateful to Golf Canada for granting this opportunity to the Hollinger Golf Club for 2021,” said Owen Rigg, host club tournament chair, in a news release.

“It is a great honour to be hosting a nationally recognized event at our club and we expect a wonderful  response for the championship from the city with a 'Heart of Gold'."

The local club is collaborating with the Northern Golf Association for the event. Stringent health and safety protocols will be in place, according to the announcement.

NextGen is a premier Canadian golf circuit that features more than 800 participants in eight regional championships every year.

"These events have provided Canada’s top junior boys and girls with opportunities to expand their competitive golf experience. Past champions of these tournaments have gone on to play in and win national and international golf championships. Many competitors have also gone on to compete in collegiate golf at various North American post-secondary institutes with some continuing on at the professional level," reads the announcement.
