Wet weather is on the way.

With significant rain in the forecast, the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority (MRCA) is warning it could mean localized flooding.

An Environment Canada special weather statement is in effect for Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls. It warns that significant rain is possible tonight and into Tuesday.

The general rainfall expected is 30 to 40 mm, however localized higher amounts could reach 60 mm by Wednesday.

"Currently, local rivers, creeks and streams are flowing at normal levels. Forecasted rainfall may cause levels and flows to rise across the watershed. There may be localized flooding in areas with poor drainage. The flood control channels maintained by the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority are currently flowing at normal levels but water levels may rise with the predicted rainfall," reads the MRCA statement.

The MRCA is warning residents to use extreme caution near rivers, creeks and streams.

"High water levels and flows can be especially dangerous and stream banks can be slippery. Please keep children and pets away from fast-flowing rivers and streams," according to the MRCA.

The watershed statement is in effect until June 25.
