A section of Algonquin Boulevard is closed for a police investigation.

Timmins Police say a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Pine Street North and Algonquin Boulevard around 8:15 a.m.

"The driver remained at the scene and we are conducting interviews of the driver and witnesses who may have seen the collision take place. The pedestrian was brought to Timmins and District Hospital with significant injury, their outcome has yet to be determined, so they're receiving medical treatment at this point, that's our understanding," said Marc Depatie, corporate communications co-ordinator.

He said technical traffic recreationists are on scene from the traffic section of the Timmins Police Service.

Algonquin Boulevard is closed to traffic between Spruce and Cedar. Pine is closed from Third Avenue to Fifth Avenue. Depatie said both vehicles and pedestrians should stay away from the area.

Depatie expects the intersection will remain closed for at least the next four to five hours.

“Anybody with any relevant information, if they happened to see the collision, we’d appreciate them coming forward,” he said.
