Ontario reports 284 new COVID cases Thursday, and 200 on Friday

The province did not publish a COVID-19 case update on July 1. Both July 1 and 2 daily numbers were reported today.

Public Health Ontario has reported 484 new COVID-19 cases in today's report, which includes updates for today and yesterday. 

The province did not publish a COVID-19 case update on July 1. Both July 1 and 2 daily numbers were reported today.

The July 1 update includes 284 new cases, 19 deaths, and 257 recoveries. 

The July 2 update includes 200 new cases, nine deaths, and 281 recoveries. 

The 28 deaths reported since Wednesday include: three people between 40 and 59 years old, 15 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 10 people over the age of 79 years old.

The July 2 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 179 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario, down from 251 on Wednesday. 
  • There are 252 patients in intensive care units with COVID-related illness (of those, 62 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • 160 people are on ventilators due to COVID-related illness (of those, 35 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • The province reported 25,161 tests were processed yesterday, and 26,929 were processed on Wednesday. 
  • Today's cases include 47 individuals aged 19 and under, 71 people between 20 and 39 years old, 46 people between 40 and 59 years old, 28 people between 60 and 79 years old, and eight people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 145,674 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday and 267,687 administered on Wednesday
  • 15,154,499 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • 5,185,939 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 545,381 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 534,010 recoveries and 9,168 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,669 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 12.3 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 12.1 per cent from the prior seven-day period. 

Northern Ontario 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 400 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. There are no known active cases.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 605 cases, weekly rate of 37.8 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 603  cases. There are 62 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,069 cases, weekly rate of 92.3 cases per 100,000 people. There are 82 known active cases.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,146 cases, weekly rate of 9.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,167 cases. There are 19 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 208 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. There are no known active cases. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,091 cases, weekly rate of 8 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,090. There are 10 known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,339 cases, weekly rate of 4.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,337 There are six known active cases.
