Ontario reporting 3,369 new COVID cases Saturday

Saturday's provincial report also includes 3,964 recoveries and 29 deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 3,369 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 1).

Today's report includes 3,964 recoveries and 29 new deaths.  

The May 1 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 37,438 active cases, which is down from 38,062 yesterday. 
  • 2,152 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 2,201 reported yesterday. 
  • There are 900 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (up from 853 yesterday) and 637 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 632 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 46,803 tests were processed yesterday. 
  • Another 26,530 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.1 million tests have been completed.
  • Of the 3,369 new cases reported today, 1,050 are from Toronto and 819 cases are from Peel.

Variants of concern (Ontario-wide)

  • 69,442 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7). 
  • 281 cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
  • 772 cases of P.1, which is the variant strain that originated in Brazil.

Vaccines

  • There were 107,700 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on April 30, down from 112,214 administered on April 29.
  • As of 8 p.m. on April 30, the province reported 5,247,684 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
  • In total, 373,559 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 466,733 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 421,216 recoveries and 8,079 deaths, of which 3,918 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
