Ontario's Progressive Conservatives are creating a special Mining Working Group.

The goal is to focus on reducing red tape and attract major new investments.

Members are expected to provide the province with input on important issues affecting the minerals sector, while also identifying opportunities to ensure growth and competitiveness for the province within the field.

The group, chaired by Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, brings together industry representatives that reflect the diversity and strength of the province's mining sector. They include accomplished leaders from mining and exploration companies, prospectors and Indigenous business organizations.

Timmins region is represented in the commitee, with members from Glencore, Goldcorp, Kirkland Lake Gold and Harte Gold taking a seat at the table.

Premier Doug Ford and Minister Rickford were at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) annual mining convention held in Toronto to announce the establishment of the group, which held its inaugural meeting today.
