Man faces several charges after entering abandoned residence

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from an assaultive altercation which occurred during the afternoon hours of Tuesday, Aug. 20. 

The Timmins Police Service responded to a complaint regarding an unwanted person who had allegedly gained entry into an abandoned residence on Elm Street South.

Once on scene, the Timmins Police officer located the suspect and determined the identity of the male party and confirmed that he was wanted in regards to unrelated criminal matters. During the arrest process the male suspect is alleged to have attempted to flee from the arresting officer.

The suspect was subdued by the Timmins Police officer and taken back into custody after a short-lived altercation.

Based on the outcome of the investigation, Justin Bertrand, 29, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Resist peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • 4 counts of fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
