There are plenty of reasons to get revved up about Snowmobile Week.

The annual celebration of the popular winter activity kicked off at city hall with a proclamation and flag raising.

“Snowmobile week is an initiative that Timmins Tourism and Timmins Snowmobile Club decided to start and just kind of really play to our wonderful snow and trail system that we have in Timmins. It’s such a huge economic development driver here in the city and with Snowcross and all...the other activities we have going on we thought why not make a week out of it,” said Tourism Timmins' Lacey Rigg.

Living in an area with a lot of snow, she said it's important to celebrate.

“And we get a lot of tourism coming up as a result of that because typically we are the first to open and the last to close, and we’re very proud of that so why not highlight those people in our city,” she said.

Events happening for Snowmobile Week are:

  • Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3 - Eclipse Financial Snowcross Pro Challenge at the Spruce Street South snow dump. Kids ages 12 and under get in free.
