Here's how much council members took home last year

Annual report breaks down salaries, expenses for council

The City of Timmins paid out more than $300,000 in salaries and expenses for council in 2018.

Each year municipalities are required to reveal how much council members were paid in salary and expenses.

A remuneration report is on the agenda for the March 19 council meeting.

It shows that in 2018, council members received $244,324.40 in salary and $62,361.84 in expenses. Altogether, that means $306,686.24 was paid out, which is lower than 2017 when the total was $311,441.02.

Former mayor Steve Black topped the list.

He received $72,510.20 in remuneration and $19,651.77 in expenses for a total of $92,161.97.

Because of the October municipal election, the salary for re-elected councillors was $21,089.50, with those who didn’t win a seat again taking home $20,210.60.

The expenses paid to each council member are:

• Pat Bamford - $5,507.73, for a total of $25,718.33 including remuneration

• Joe Campbell (re-elected) - $5,184.30, for a total of $26,273.80 including remuneration

• Mike Doody - $6,165.16, for a total of $26,375.76 including remuneration

• Rick Dubeau - $5,894.51, for a total of $26,105.11 including remuneration

• Andrew Marks (re-elected) - $4,355.44, for a total of $25,444.94 including remuneration

• Noella Rinaldo (re-elected) - $4,334.94, for a total of $25,424.44 including remuneration

• Walter Wawrzaszek - $8,051.09, for a total of $28,261.69 including remuneration

• Veronica Farrell - $3,176.20, for a total of $23,386.80 including remuneration

New councillors earned $878.90 in 2018, with Mayor George Pirie’s remuneration being $3,098.20.

Mayor George Pirie is the only member of the new council with expenses, which are $40.70, for a total of $3,138.90 including remuneration.

The report also breaks down the expenses paid to members of different boards and committees, such as the Police Services board, Cochrane Social Services Administration Board, Porcupine Health Unit, Mattagami Region Conservation Authority.
