Another Timmins mine is helping working on the frontlines of the local COVID-19 efforts.
Glencore Kidd Operations is donating $10,000 to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation, and $3,500 to Timmins and District Victim Services.
According to the company, at the hospital the money is for necessary equipment and supplies for frontline healthcare workers, and to make sure the hospital has the necessary supply of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Timmins and District Victim Services offers short-term crisis support to the community, and has staff available 24/7.
"We wholeheartedly thank Glencore Kidd Operations for their generous donation of $3,500 that will allow us to assist the most vulnerable people. In these times more than ever, resources to address safety, accommodation, and basic needs of victims are required. As the work we do continues, without their generosity we may not be able to assist some of the Timmins and District's most needed population," said Kerry Trudel, a support worker with the organization, in a news release.
Last week, the mining company announced a $25-million Glencore Community Support Fund to help the communities where it operates address the pandemic.
The company says they are working on other local partnerships, which will be announced once finalized with community partners.
