COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins and area today

Seven new COVID-19 cases were reported in Timmins today. 

The update from the Porcupine Health Unit also included seven recoveries in the region.

To date, there have been 622 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 468 are recovered and 26 people have died. There are 128 known active cases.

So far this month, 261 new cases have been reported in the health unit region. There has also been one death. In 2020, there was a total of 130 cases confirmed in the region.

There have been 28,684 people in the region vaccinated, which is an increase of 20 from yesterday's report. Since Monday's report, 1,247 people have been vaccinated. There have been 29,974 doses of the vaccine administered, which is an increase of 1,401 since Monday. As of April 26, 1,136 people had received both doses of the vaccine in the region.

As of Monday, 149 confirmed local cases had been flagged as a variant of concern.

The main variant in the region is the United Kingdom (B.1.1.7) variant. There have also been two cases of the South African variant. 

For the identified variant cases, 59.6 per cent have been in Timmins, 37.7 have been in the area of Matheson, Iroquois Falls, Cochrane and Smooth Rock Falls, and 2.7 per cent have been in the Kapuskasing area. 

Today in Ontario, 3,887 new cases of the virus were reported. Today's report also includes 4,242 recoveries, 21 deaths and 250 new hospitalizations.
