Ontario reports 3,887 new COVID cases Friday

Today's report also includes 4,242 recoveries, 21 deaths and 250 new hospitalizations

Public Health Ontario has reported 3,887 new cases of COVID-19 today (April 30). 

Today's report includes 4,242 recoveries and 21 new deaths.

Today's deaths include 11 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 10 people over the age of 79 years old.

The province has reported 250 new hospitalizations since yesterday, and 38 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.

The April 30 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 38,062 active cases, which is down from 38,438 yesterday. 
  • 2,201 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 2,248 reported yesterday. 
  • There are 853 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 884 yesterday) and 632 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 620 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 53,074 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 7.4 per cent positivity rate. 
  • Another 29,003 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14 million tests have been completed.
  • Of the 3,887 new cases reported today, 1,131 are from Toronto, 871 cases are from Peel, 267 are from York Region, and 62 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
  • Today's cases include 639 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,577 people between 20 and 39 years old, 1,179 people between 40 and 59 years old, 443 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 46 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 112,214 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on April 29, which is down from 120,567 on April 27.
  • As of 6 p.m. on April 29, the province reported 5,139,984 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
  • In total, 371,110 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 463,364 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 417,252 recoveries and 8,050 deaths, of which 3,918 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,117.3 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 179.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 11.9 per cent from last week (April 14 to April 20).

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 332 cases, weekly rate of 17.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 331 cases. There are 44 known active cases, including three people who are temporarily in the region but the case is not part of the local numbers. 
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 349 cases, weekly rate of 10.8 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 351 cases. There are 16 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 607 cases, weekly rate of 83.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 615 cases. There are 128 known active cases. 
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 1,907 cases, weekly rate of 27.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,929 cases. There are 79 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 179 cases, weekly rate of 76.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 180 cases. There are 36 known active cases. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 919 cases, weekly rate of 75.3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 927 cases. There are 71 known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,096 cases, weekly rate of 36 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,097 cases. There are 63 known active cases.
