COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins and area today

Eight new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Timmins and area so far today.

Six people are in Timmins and two are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls. One of the cases is related to an outbreak and the rest of the people are the contact of a case.

To date, there have been 498 confirmed cases of the virus in the Porcupine Health Unit region. Of those, 378 are recovered and 25 people have died. There are 95 known active cases. Since last Monday, 91 new cases have been reported. Most of them are in Timmins and the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls.

There are seven outbreaks in the area.

The most recent one was announced yesterday and is at McEwan Mining - Black Fox Mine, where there have been three cases that are linked to the workplace. There are also workplace outbreaks at Glencore's Kidd Mine and Black River-Matheson town staff. There are outbreaks at three Iroquois Falls schools — St. Anne English Catholic School, Iroquois Falls Secondary School  and Iroquois Falls Public Schools — and at Pope Francis elementary in Timmins.

Public Health Ontario reported 4,447 new cases of COVID-19 today. It has confirmed 421,442 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 370,844 recoveries and 7,735 deaths, of which 3,909 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
