Public Health Ontario has reported 4,447 new cases of COVID-19 today (April 19).
Today's report includes 3,153 recoveries and 19 new deaths.
The deaths reported today include one person between 20 and 39 years old, five people between 40 and 59 years old, five people between 60 and 79 years old, and eight people over the age of 79 years old.
The province has reported 203 new hospitalizations since yesterday, and 41 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.
The April 19 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 42,863 active cases, which is up from 41,588 yesterday.
- 2,202 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 2,107 reported yesterday.
- There are 755 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (up from 741 yesterday) and 516 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 506 reported yesterday)
- The province reported 42,873 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 10.5 per cent positivity rate.
- Another 21,512 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 13.5 million tests have been completed.
- Of the 4,447 new cases reported today, 1,866 are from Toronto, 926 cases are from Peel, 577 are from York Region, and 114 are from Simcoe-Muskoka
- The new cases reported today include 897 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,600 people between 20 and 39 years old, 1,319 people between 40 and 59 years old, 557 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 75 people aged 80 and over.
Vaccines
- There were 66,897 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on April 18
- As of 6 p.m. on April 18, the province reported 3,904,778 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 346,005 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 421,442 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 370,844 recoveries and 7,735 deaths, of which 3,909 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 2,855.2 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 206.5 cases per 100,000 people, which is an increase of 27.8 per cent from last week (April 3 to April 9).
In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:
- Algoma Public Health: 296 cases, rate of 258.7 per 100,000 people. There are 50 known active cases, including one person who is temporarily in the region but the case is not part of the local numbers. There have been six confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant of concern and 24 tests have screened positive for a mutation.
- North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 331 cases, rate of 255.1 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 333 cases. There are 21 known active cases. There have been 43 confirmed cases of the United Kingdom (B.1.1.7) variant, and 27 confirmed cases of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. Twelve tests have screened positive for a mutation.
- Porcupine Health Unit: 490 cases, rate of 587.2 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 498 cases. There are 95 known active cases. There have been five confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) strain and two confirmed cases of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. Four tests have screened positive for a mutation.
- Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 171 cases, rate of 165 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,845 total cases. There are 171 known active cases as of April 19. There have been five confirmed cases of variants of concern. There are 650 tests that have screened positive for a mutation.**
- Timiskaming Health Unit: 137 cases, rate of 419.1 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 138 cases. There are seven known active cases. There have been 25 confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant and one case of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern.
- Northwestern Health Unit: 809 cases, rate of 922.7 per 100,000 people. There are 72 known active cases. There have been 18 confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant and 17 tests have screened positive for a mutation.
- Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,008 cases, rate of 2,005.9 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,004 cases. There are 56 known active cases. Ten tests have screened positive for a mutation.
