Timmins council is back at the virtual council table this week.

It's a small agenda for its second meeting of the year. The meeting is tonight (Tuesday, Jan. 19) at 6 p.m.

Here are a couple of items to note:

  • The redevelopment of the Golden Manor could be taking another step forward. Staff is recommending that BTY Consultancy Group do the project management services for the design phases and furniture, fixtures and equipment procurement. The fixed-fee contract is for $203,600 plus HST. The Timmins facility has been approved for the redevelopment of its 176 beds and has been allocated 16 new spaces. The new, 192-bed building will be built on the empty land in the northwest corner of the current location on Melrose Boulevard. The full report is available here.
  • The interim tax levy bylaw is on the agenda. While council is still working its way through the 2021 budget, the municipality is able to collect up 50 per cent of last year's levy before the new budget is approved. According to the report, the interim tax bills are due March 1. "This bylaw is the same as the previous years, it helps the city with cash flow to offset current expenditures and reduce borrowing costs. We offer our residents the opportunity to pay their current taxes through monthly payment plans in order to spread out their payments evenly throughout the year," reads the report.
