People working for the City of Timmins will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Timmins released its workplace vaccination policy today. It is for all municipal employees, students, contractors at city facilities and volunteers.

Staff will have to show proof of full vaccination — both doses, plus 14 days — or a medical exemption by end of business day on Friday, Oct. 1. People who have had one dose at that time must take a rapid antigen test twice a week until fully vaccinated.

If someone does not comply with the policy, corporate communications officer Amanda Dyer said the person would have to complete a mandatory education program.

"Should they still not be in compliance we would place them on leave," she said.

Ontario's vaccine passport goes into effect tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 22. It requires people to show proof of full vaccination to go to high-risk public indoor spaces such as indoor dining, gyms and cinemas.
