Organizers of the fireworks at Stars and Thunder are keeping an eye on the weather radar.

If the forecast doesn’t look favourable for tomorrow and the wind conditions are good today, the fireworks will be set off tonight.

“As you can tell, the weather is kind of wishy-washy, thunder storms in the forecast. We really want to get the final show off, so there’s a possibility it may go Saturday night if Sunday night is forecasting really bad thunder storms and it’s not likely to go off Sunday ‘cause we want to make sure we get that Team Canada show off,” Timmins Mayor Steve Black told the crowd last night.

According to a statement from the City of Timmins, if both Saturday and Sunday look unfavourable, the fireworks will be launched later in the week.

“We will keep the public informed through the festival Facebook page and various media outlets,” reads the news release.

Meanwhile, the winners of the fireworks competition were also announced yesterday.

Team Finland, who launched its show Tuesday, won this year’s event.

Team China was second, with Team Brazil in third place.

Black explained that the judges chose the winners based on criteria like colour, synchronization to the music, and crowd reaction.

An update from organizers this afternoon relays that the forecast isn't looking good for fireworks over the next couple of days.
