7 additional COVID-19 cases reported

This brings the total number of cases reported today in the region to 21

Seven additional COVID-19 cases are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit tonight.

These are in addition to the 14 cases reported earlier today, bringing the total number of cases reported today to 21. 

Three people are in the area of James and Hudson Bay, two are in Timmins, and two are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls. 

Three people are the contacts of a case and the exposure of four cases is under investigation, according to the health unit. 

This afternoon, Timmins and District Hospital reported its bed capacity is stable, but the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 needing medical care is increasing. 

As of 10 a.m. this morning, there were 18 patients with COVID-19 at the facility, including one person in ICU. That's an increase since the last report Friday when there were 10 patients admitted, including one person in ICU. 

In the Porcupine Health Unit region,1,172 there have been 1,165 confirmed cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic. Of those, 809 are recovered and 26 people have died. There are a record 337 known active cases in the region. 

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
