5 additional COVID cases confirmed

Five new COVID-19 cases are being reported tonight in the Porcupine Health Unit region.

These are in addition to the 29 reported earlier today, bringing the total number of cases today to 34.

Two of the new cases are in Timmins, two people are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, and one person is in the James Baya rea.

The exposure of four cases is under investigation and one case is related to an outbreak, according to the Porcupine Health Unit.

In the region, there have been 1,206 confirmed cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic. Of those, 854 are recovered and 26 people have died. There are a record 316 known active cases.

Earlier today, a potential COVID-19 exposure advisory was also issued for a Timmins flight. 

The travel advisory is for the Wednesday, May 19 Air Canada flight AC8283 scheduled to leave from Toronto to Timmins at 8:30 a.m.

It is especially for passengers who sat in rows seven to 11, who must self-isolate immediately and call their local health unit. Other people are advised to self-monitor.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
