20 new COVID-19 cases, 47 recoveries reported

Twenty new COVID-19 cases and 47 recoveries are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today.

Fifteen people are in Timmins, three are in Moosonee, one is in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, and one is in the Hearst, Hornepayne area. 

Twelve people are the contacts of cases, two are related to an outbreak and the exposure of six cases is under investigation, according to the health unit. 

To date, there have been 913 confirmed cases in the region. Of those, 690 are recovered and 26 people have died. There are 197 known active cases — 166 in Timmins, 16 in the region of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, 13 in the James and Hudson Bay region, one in the Kapuskasing area and one in the Hearst, Hornepayne area.

So far, 38,444 people have been vaccinated. There have been 41,502 doses of the vaccine administered. Both of these are the same as yesterday's report. 

People 12 years and older are eligible to book their first COVID vaccine dose at clinics offering Pfizer. Clinics with Moderna are open to people 18 years and up. A list of upcoming clinics is available here

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
