Dear Editor and Residents of Timmins,

Now that the municipal election candidates have been announced, some of you may be wondering why my name is not on the list after running for Ward 5 in 2018.

Thank you to everyone who supported me in the previous election. I said I would run again, but at the present time, it would not be fair to the community to seek election, because I would not be able to dedicate enough time and attention required as a candidate and/or municipal council member.

For several years, I have wanted to pursue more post-secondary education and have been enrolled in an undergraduate degree program since May. Even though the course load is part-time, the volume of reading, assignments, and the exam schedule would not be conducive to the responsibilities in running for municipal office, regardless of the election outcome. I wish all the candidates the best, and encourage everyone to vote on Oct. 24.

Karina Miki Douglas-Takayesu,
