Two new COVID-19 cases reported, outbreak declared at Pepco in Hearst

The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting two new COVID-19 cases and has declared an outbreak at a Hearst workplace.

The two cases are in the Hearst, Hornepayne area and are related to an institutional outbreak, according to the health unit. The people are in self-isolation.

The outbreak is at Pepco in Hearst where four employees are confirmed cases that are linked to the workplace. 

"The PHU is working closely with the workplace to ensure the infection prevention and control measures are in place. The management team at Pepco is taking all the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of infection and prevent the transmission of COVID-19," reads the bulletin.

"The PHU has already followed up with close contacts (those with high-risk exposures)."

To date, there have been 341 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 301 are recovered and 25 people have died. There are 15 known active cases.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne.
