A Timmins man in his 20s is the 72nd confirmed COVID-19 case in the region.
According to the Porcupine Health Unit, he is self isolating at home. The investigation into his exposure is ongoing.
Today's update also includes one new recovery.
Of the 72 confirmed cases, 63 have recovered and eight people have died. There is one known active case of the virus in the region.
The health unit is aware of 13.333 tests being done in the region, which is an increase of 1,452 from yesterday's report.
"As we continue to learn more about COVID-19 through evidence-based research and expert advice, we are becoming more aware of risk of transmission in different settings. COVID-19 spreads more easily in certain locations than others. These locations are: in crowded places (with many people nearby), in close contact settings (where people have close-range conversations) and in confined and enclosed spaces (areas with poor ventilation). As a rule of thumb, we identify these places as the 3 C’s. The risk becomes higher in places where the 3 C’s overlap. This is important to know in order to reduce the chance of becoming infected, especially if you or someone you’re close to are at a higher risk to becoming ill. Remember that you are responsible for your own actions," reads today's update.
COVID-19 testing is open to anyone who feels they need to be tested, even if you don't have symptoms. To access testing, call your health care provider or the health unit.
There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne.
